Dj Nessdigital ++ the Spirit of WBLS

I used to love listening to WBLS. Asides all the music that our mamas and daddies introduced us to, listening to WBLS alongside their notable djs and radio hosts is definitely how I developed some of my musical tastes.

That said, when it came down to RnB/Soul...

WBLS was like the King of things...

My favorite personalities were...
Hal Jackson,
Mister Magic,
Bob Slate and Mtume,
Micheal Baisden,
Wendy Williams,
and last but certainly not least

Frankie Crocker! Mr Magic + Marley Marl <<<<<

This mini mix captures the essence of WBLS's soulful musical direction.

When it comes down to who's the champion of hip-hop, for me, Jay- Z is the muther-fugging King, hands down. We could argument the point, but really, who cares, let's just toast it up to this bad brother.

Whether you're into old school, new school, gangsta rap or pop, Jay covers the entire realm, with the coolest of swag... You Gotta love him. (and love me too)

This Saturday Night 5/7/11, Ill be paying tribute to one of the best to ever do it, with my JAY Z mix... and you gotta be there.

Busta Rhymes is easily one of the most beloved hip hop artists of all time, and definitely one of my favorites. Busta first jumped on the mic in 1991 with his L.I homies, Leaders of the New School and since then, he’s collaborated with seemingly everyone, staying atop the charts, and most importantly, he’s been consistently creating hip hop and r&b magic… and reggae too.

Busta is so versatile, that he’s penned hits with Mariah, Tribe Called Quest, Janet, Chris Brown, T-pain, Mary J, Trey Songz, Rick Ross, Diddy, Latifa, Missy Elliot, Wyclef, John Legend… top charting reggae artists… and scores other. His music is typically full of energy and wit, and his voice is uniquely distinctive. On screen, Busta’s magic is even more vivid.

20 years later, he's still killing it… Imagine that!

Join me, this Saturday, August 27, 8pm-1am…

Common + Nas...

Uptown Saturday Night

Have you guys had a chance to checkout Common and Nas’ recent song collaboration called “Ghetto Dreams?” If you haven’t yet, it’s pretty groovy.

As for me, this collaboration was years delayed and I always wondered why these two great minds haven’t collaborated sooner… (I felt the same way about Malcolm X & Dr. King too… These kats are the hip hop version of those men)…

Just imagine what we would of heard had they collaborated sooner… It’s almost unimaginable to conceive!

Anyhow this Saturday, I will be meshing together grooves from the extensive Common and Nas catalog… So, if you’re a lover of quality lyrics and beats, (no laffy taffy) you won’t wanna miss this event.

Take a peep at the video:

A Dedication To A Tribe Called Quest

One of my all time favorite hip hop groups, A Tribe Called Quest is releasing a documentary today that's going to be blazing and amazing....
My love for this group runs back to my days as a youth growing up in Queens Village, Hollis, and the St. Albans area...

As a rap group, ATCQ is considered to be Hip Hop Royalty, (Beatles like) and their music speaks volumes... Even though they haven't made an album in over 10years, you could...n't tell because they're still so very relevant...

As a dj, whenever I play a Tribe song, everyone responds... New School Kats, Old School Kats, Gangsta, Backpackers and even folks who claim not to like rap... Go Figure...

I could go on and on praising these kats... but I'll let my dj set display my affection. This Saturday night, please join me in celebrating the Legacy of this these Hip Hop Legends... I'll be spinning some of their biggest hits and non commercial hits... including music from their contemporaries like Nas, The Native Tongues, Latifah, Monie Love, Pharcyde, Large Professor, and other rappers from the Golden era of rap...

You should be there!!

P.S. Ciroc/Petrone Drink Specials All Night !!

P.S. Don't forget to checkout the flick!!

There are certain type of grooves that once you hear it, or play it loud, it just hits you hard... Now, I'm talking bout music that sounds so good, it doesn't matter if you heard it a million times, or a few, it always groovy. I'm talking bout the type of stuff that you'...ll hear on Soul Train or goodies from your daddy's or great grand daddy's record collection, or layered underneath someone rapping. This Saturday, do join me @ Sasa's because I'm going to be throwing down. I'll be sure to play grooves that'll have you making that infamously ugly, thats my jam face.

FUNK + A Bit of SOME SOUL MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG

BLACK IS STILL BEAUTIFUL

SASA'S LOUNGE
924 COLUMBUS AVE, BET 105&106 ST

Black History is a month long ceremony in February that examines and celebrates the lives and various achievements made by our kinfolk… past and present. It was started by Carter G. Woodson as an effort to bring to light th...e often-neglected accomplishments made by Blacks.

Our ancestors have fought long and hard before achieving the proverbial Civil Rights honor and although Blacks have had disproportionately less access, opportunities and freedoms in comparison to Whites, most Black folks were connected through their pursuit of happiness and by the color of their skin.

During those times, Black people showed a lot of strength, commonality, unity and pride. They coined a saying like “Black is Beautiful” and they were unmistakably considered a Negro because they had that shaded skin color (unless they were passing)…

However, things have changed.

…In recent times, debates have surfaced as to whether or not Black History month is even relevant; and the irony with that thinking stems from the fact that some of the people asking that very question are Black folk! Go figure.

That stirred me but the truth is, every once in a while we need to be reminded that...

BLACK IS STILL BEAUTIFUL!

This week Saturday 2/25/12, join us at Sasa’s Lounge, as Dj Nessdigital takes you on a special trip. Expect to hear the grooviest songs that honors our heroes for Black History month.
